Pilot Car and Escort Vehicle Company in Connecticut

A Reliable Escort Vehicle and Pilot Car Company in Connecticut

Are you transporting an oversized load across Connecticut and its environs? Nationwide Transport Services is your guarantee of a stress-free process. We offer our clients professional pilot car services across all 50 states and personalized escort vehicle services. Whether you are moving a single oversized load or multiple oversized loads, we guarantee state-of-the-art transportation. We collect permits, coordinate with transport agencies, and conduct route surveys. Additionally, we have cranes, which we put at our clients’ disposal when loading or unloading oversized loads.

At Nationwide Transport Services, our specialists plan the transport process by first conducting a route survey. This involves driving the prospective route in a certified pilot car, taking note of the clearances of underpasses and bridges, railway crossings, overhead infrastructure like cables and traffic signals, tight turns, and traffic flow patterns. We conduct this process to identify which permits we require from owners of public utilities in the way and to coordinate with local authorities to plan road closures and law enforcement escorts in advance.

Pilot Car Requirements in Connecticut

The pilot cars we offer are licensed and in good condition. Additionally, we equip them to meet the local regulations in Connecticut. For a vehicle to be certified for the role, its width must be 60 inches at a minimum, with a maximum factory capacity of one and a half tons. When in transit, the vehicle has to display a top-mounted sign reading “OVERSIZE LOAD AHEAD/FOLLOWING” with the bottom of the sign at least 48 inches above the road surface. Also, the top mount is a flashing or rotating amber light, which is always on during operation and must be visible from at least one thousand feet away from the front or rear. For communication, the pilot cars maintain two-way radios linked to every vehicle in the convoy and have a range of at least one and a half miles. Pilot cars are necessary when moving oversized loads as they escort the load in transit, warn other motorists on the road, clear the road where necessary, spot any difficulties on the road, and, in general, ensure the safety of all involved entities.

In every state, it is a legal requirement that oversized loads have pilot cars escorting them, failure of which will result in fines and travel restrictions.
