Chargeable Weight Definition
Chargeable weight, or volume weight, is used to determine the price of your freight shipment. The chargeable weight is chosen based on gross weight (actual weight) or volumetric weight (dimensional weight). The greater of the two determines the freight rate.
What To Know About Chargeable Weight
Gross weight includes the product, packaging, and pallet if used.
Volume weight formula: (length x height x width) / divisor = volume weight in kg
The service provider, carrier, or forwarder provides the divisor.
While chargeable weight is most commonly seen for air freight, it's also used in oversized load transport, equipment hauling, and container shipping.
