A Reliable Escort Vehicle and Pilot Car Company in Florida

Contact Nationwide Transport Services today for expert pilot car services in Florida. Our pilot cars serve every part of the state and will escort your oversized load from even the most remote locations. We also accompany your load for out-of-state deliveries as we operate in all the states.

When oversized loads are in transit, escort cars are needed to ensure the safety of the driver, the load, and the public. By law, they must be present to spot any dangers on the road ahead, warn other motorists, assist with clearing traffic on narrow roads, and help with communication. Pilot car service providers carry out route surveys and acquire permits. A route survey evaluates the planned route and notes overhead utilities, railway crossings, tight turns, and the heights of bridges and underpasses.

Florida oversize permits have a validity of ten days from issuance. Permits regulate the travel of oversized loads on certain days and give permission where infrastructure needs to be taken down to allow the load through. In some cases, the owners of public utilities not only issue permits but also provide a representative to accompany the load. Travel is not allowed during the six main holidays plus Martin Luther King Day for loads larger than ten ′ wide, 14′-6″ high, or the legal length. Sometimes, the days before and after New Year’s, Thanksgiving, and Christmas may have restrictions imposed.

Pilot Car Requirements in Florida

In Florida, an escort vehicle has to weigh more than 2,000 pounds and have a total load rating of no more than 26,000 pounds. Operators must complete a pilot car certification program recognized within the state. During operations, the escort and towing vehicles must display an “OVERSIZE LOAD” sign on the front and back of the vehicle. A rotating, strobe, or flashing amber light, visible from at least 500 feet, is mounted on the vehicles to warn approaching traffic of a possible safety hazard.

Your load qualifies as oversized in the state of Florida if its dimensions are:

Legal Loads Limit
Length: 40 feet for a single vehicle
Width: 8 feet 6 inches or 8 feet on roadways less than 12 feet
Height: 13 feet 6 inches
