Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Definition

The exact time of arrival is the specified time of your freight delivery. The estimated arrival time is calculated based on the dispatch time. For example, if you’re shipping a car, it can be predicted by looking at the number of miles traveled.

The drivers can legally travel 500 miles daily, so you calculate the exact arrival time by dividing the miles to be traveled by 500. Of course, the estimated arrival time is affected by weather, traffic, and mode of transport.

Estimated Time of Arrival Delays and More

Heavy traffic and weather will cause delays. Drivers must stop for an unknown time when heavy rain or strong winds threaten the shipment. Open-air transport means that drivers have to stop regularly to drop off and pick up other loads, affecting the estimated time of arrival. The cargo delivery time can only be estimated because a lot can happen between the pickup and drop-off locations.
