Customs Entry Definition
Custom entry is an official declaration of information on imported freight. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requires custom entry forms on all international freight. When you work with a logistics company, your shipping agent handles custom entry forms and other paperwork to ensure correct and safe freight transport.
What Goes On a Customs Entry Form?
Fields on a customs entry form include:
- Country of origin
- Freight description
- Freight Value
- Insurance Value
- Customs Classification Number
- The estimated amount of paid duties expected on the freight.
Two types of customs entry forms include:
1. Formal Customs Entries:
- Freight that doesn't need surety or entry bond coverage.
- Valued at less than $2,500.
2. Informal Customs Entries:
- Freight that must have surety or entry bond coverage.
- Valued at more than $2,500.
- Assumed as commercial freight.
