Whether it's the state oversized load regulations or the local highways, we have accumulated the experience over the years. Our drivers are highly qualified and certified and are among the best in the state. We save our customers the hassle of self-organizing oversized shipments as we handle every step, from providing escort cars to permit acquisition and conducting route surveys. Our expertise with oversized loads is vast. We have experience guiding construction equipment, industrial equipment, agricultural equipment, and much more. Our services are available in all 50 states, and we deliver and pick up loads from all parts of Nevada, both urban and remote.

Pilot car operations in all states require regulations varying slightly from state to state. In Nevada, the Department of Transportation is responsible for issuing oversize permits. Permits are valid for five days and indicate the trip start point, destination, and approved route. The route is predetermined before permit application through a route survey, which our specialists conduct in a pilot car. We conduct the route survey to ascertain that the road dimensions are enough to let the load through. We also take note of any railway crossings and overhead utilities along the route to notify the necessary authorities and utility owners.

Nevada Pilot Cars Requirements

A pilot car can be either a passenger car or a truck with no more than two axles, a maximum manufacturer's gross weight rating of at most 16,000 pounds, and a width of at least 60 inches. A pilot car should not be loaded or equipped in any way that interferes with its traffic safety functions or public recognition of its traffic safety function.  The vehicles must have two flashing or rotating amber lights above the roofline on each side of the "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign visible from at least 500 feet in all directions. The operator must fix a placard on each side of the pilot car, visible from 50 feet during the day, and state the name and telephone number of the individual or company providing the pilot car service. Also necessary are two-way radios compatible with the radios on the other assigned pilot cars and the escorted vehicle.

In Nevada, the legal dimensions are as follows:

  • Length: 53 feet for semi-trailers or 75 feet maximum length, including rear overhang.
  • Width: 8 feet 6 inches.
  • Height: 18 feet.
  • Weight: 80,000 Gross Vehicle Weight.
  • Overhang: 10 feet if the length, including the overhang, does not exceed 75 feet.
